Capitol Hill- Dee Taylor
Jolley
by Christine Harvey
Don’t underestimate the value of young childhood experience.
Dee Taylor Jolley worked on Capitol Hill for several years. She arranged
to take her lunch hour at 3:00 so she could pick up her young son from
school. Then she’d take him back to her office where he could nap on the
sofa.
Dee sees everything we do with children as teaching and training. When
she’d take her young son to receptions, she’d train him in advance on
manners and protocol.
Don’t Touch The Grapes
“We’re going to a reception today,” she’d say. “You can’t take the grapes
from the table until I tell you it’s time. This is how you have to behave.”
And so her son grew up comfortable in the surroundings of government, formal
and social.
